Privacy Policy

In order to sign up and use our service you’ll need to provide limited personal information. We appreciate the trust you place in True to be good stewards of this information. We only use this information to provide access to the service and to improve the user experience. We never sell or monetize user data.

We have written this privacy policy to comply with the most advanced privacy law in the United States, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and we’re applying the same CCPA benefits to all our other users as well.

Information We Get When You Use Our Services

When you use our services, we collect information about which of those services you’ve used and how you’ve used them.

Here’s a fuller explanation of the types of information we collect when you use our services:

  • Usage Information. We collect information about your activity through our services. For example, we may collect information about:
    • how you interact with our services
    • how you communicate with other True users, such as their names, the time and date of your communications, the number of messages you exchange with your friends, which friends you exchange messages with the most, and your interactions with messages (such as when you open a message or capture a screenshot).
  • Content Information. We collect content you create on our services and information about the content you create or provide, such as if the recipient has viewed the content and the metadata that is provided with the content.
  • Device Information. We collect information from and about the devices you use. For example, we collect:
    • information about your hardware and software, such as the hardware model, operating system version, device memory, advertising identifiers, unique application identifiers, apps installed, unique device identifiers, browser type, keyboards installed, language, battery level, and time zone;
    • information from device sensors, such as accelerometers, gyroscopes, compasses, microphones, and whether you have headphones connected; and
    • information about your wireless and mobile network connections, such as mobile phone number, service provider, IP address, and signal strength.
  • Device Phonebook and Contact List. Because our services are all about communicating with friends, we may — with your permission — collect information from your device’s phonebook and contact list.
  • Camera and Photos. Many of our services require us to collect images and other information from your device’s camera and photos. For example, you won’t be able to upload photos from your camera roll unless we can access your camera or photos.
  • Information Collected by Cookies and Other Technologies. Like most online services and mobile applications, we may use cookies and other technologies, such as web beacons, web storage, and unique advertising identifiers, to collect information about your activity, browser, and device. We may also use these technologies to collect information when you interact with services we offer through one of our partners, such as advertising and commerce features.
  • Log Information. We also collect log information when you use our website, such as:
    • details about how you’ve used our services;
    • device ID and information, such as your web browser type and language;
    • access times;
    • pages viewed;
    • IP address;
    • identifiers associated with cookies or other technologies that may uniquely identify your device or browser; and
    • pages you visited before or after navigating to our website.
    • If you or another user uploads their contact list, we may combine information from that user’s contact list with other information we have collected about you so you can connect as friends

Our information practices regarding non-personal information

  • Technical data. In order to maintain the integrity of our systems and to monitor and improve their performance we collect technical information typically collected by websites and apps: device characteristics (including device ID for mobile devices), operating system, browser type, dates and times logged in, use statistics, metadata for images, etc.
  • Aggregate and anonymized data. To better understand our users we may use de-identified/anonymized data and aggregate data through sources such as an IDFA and an AAID to enable us to gauge what parts of our products are popular and how they are used generally.
  • Contact Lists. To enable you to access your contacts from within the True app, you can sync your contact list to True. Once your contacts are synced, you'll receive notifications when anyone on your list joins True. We’ll never use your contact list for anything other than to provide a better user experience (we won’t sell or share the information on your contact list).

In any case, we don’t collect personal data as defined in Art. 4 of the GDPR, except that which you voluntarily provide.
